HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 43 seconds into the game, Saint Anselm was given a player-up situation after a green card was issued to Daemen. The Hawks made quick work of the advantage, scoring a few seconds later with Fitzgerald finding the back of the net off a feed from senior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) to make it 1-0.
  • The Wildcats got on the scoreboard shortly after with Olivia Wade finding Avery Castner at the top of the crease. Castner was able to finish to tie the score, 1-1.
  • 30 seconds after conceding a goal, the Hawks answered with junior Samantha Rivet (Sudbury, Mass.) finding senior Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, Mass.) open out in front. Stuzynski's shot made it a 2-1 game with 11:46 to go in the first quarter.
  • Saint Anselm was able to get the ball right back after senior Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) forced a Daemen turnover. On the offensive end, Stuzynski found a cutting Ferullo who scored and Fitzgerald added her second a couple minutes later, forcing a timeout by the Wildcats with 5:29 remaining in the first.
  • Hawks junior goaltender Elizabeth Driscoll (Marlbehead, Mass.) made a nice save coming out of the timeout. Saint Anselm then ran it down to the offensive zone, where junior Kendra Sabotka (Rutland, Vt.) made a backdoor cut and received a pass from Stuzynski before beating the goalie high to give the Hawks a 5-1 lead.
  • Wade then scored for Daemen, but with 21 seconds left in the first, Sullivan found freshman Alyssa Hill (Brookline, N.H.) open up top. Her sidearm shot found the top corner and the Hawks took a 6-2 lead into the second quarter.
  • Saint Anselm scored four goals in the opening four minutes of the second quarter and took a commanding 10-2 lead. Ferullo and Stuzysnki added their second goals, while Fitzgerald completed her hat trick and Sullivan made it an eight-goal advantage with her first tally of the afternoon.
  • With 7:08 left in the half, Sullivan caught a pass from Stuzynski and split two defenders. Her shot found the top left corner to make it 11-2, Hawks.
  • Daemen got a goal back after Ella Bouley scored off a free-position shot. Wade then scored her second of the game during a player-up opportunity to bring the deficit back down to seven goals for the Wildcats with four minutes left in the half.
  • Scoring her fourth goal of the game off a free-position opportunity was Fitzgerald, and under a minute later, Sullivan set up junior Abigail Christmas (Elmira, N.Y.) for another Saint Anselm score that made it 13-4. Rivet got into the scoring column just before halftime and the Hawks led by 10 goals at the break.
  • In a low-scoring third quarter, Fitzgerald notched her fifth goal of the game just over two minutes in. The Wildcats scored with 4:30 left in the third with Castner finishing off a feed from Dana Bacher. Senior goaltender Tess Froio (Hull, Mass.) entered the game for the Hawks midway through the period and made two stops in goal to keep her team ahead by 10 going into the fourth.
  • Freshman Lucy Mawn (Hawrich, Mass.) got in on the scoring with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, driving to her right and bouncing a shot into the cage. Junior Jaycie Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) scored a couple minutes later and Brianna Fruci (Walpole, Mass.) added one as well, helping Saint Anselm secure the win, 18-5.
