HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Assumption took the first shot on goal of the game, but Saint Anselm junior goaltender Elizabeth Driscoll (Marlbehead, Mass.) was up to the task and kept the game scoreless with her first save of the night.
  • Four minutes into the first quarter, Olivia Catanzarite scored to give Assumption a 1-0 lead. However, that lead was short-lived as senior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) registered her first goal of the game 27 seconds later. Sullivan put a defender in the spin cycle before tucking home a left-handed shot from close-range to tie it, 1-1.
  • The Greyhounds quickly took the lead back with three consecutive goals to pull ahead, 4-1. Isabelle Edwards, Katelynn Johnston, and Jenna Joseph all scored for Assumption within a 2:12 span.
  • Assumption looked to build on their momentum with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Molly Weiand took a shot from straight away for the Greyhounds, but Driscoll came up with a huge stop to keep her team down by just three.
  • Assumption added two goals in the final 90 seconds of the first quarter with Katelynn Johnston and Mallory Bartlett driving to the net and finishing to give the Greyhounds a 6-1 advantage going into the second.
  • Saint Anselm started the second quarter on a positive note. Senior Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, N.H.) made a backdoor pass to senior Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.), who finished to make it 6-2.
  • However, Catanzarite found the back of the net from a free-position opportunity 37 seconds later and Katelynn Johnston added her third goal 30 seconds after that to put the Greyhounds ahead by six.
  • With 9:56 left in the first half, Bartlett scored and Assumption obtained its largest lead of the game to that point, 9-2.
  • After Driscoll made a save on a free-position chance, Stuzynski scored on a free-position opportunity at the other end for the Hawks to trim the margin back down to just six with 6:01 left.
  • With five minutes remaining in the first half, Kyle Johnston scored the 10th Greyhounds goal to increase their lead back up to seven. Assumption took that 10-3 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Greyhounds won the opening draw control to start the third quarter, resulting in Grace Chicko scoring. Joseph and Kyle Johnston added another goal each for Assumption, who took a double-digit lead, 13-3, at the 12:36 mark of the third.
  • The Hawks had trouble getting things going on offense to start the second half and turned the ball over to the Greyhounds twice. Chicko netted her second of the period with 8:21 left and Assumption led by 11 goals.
  • Saint Anselm ended a 10 minute goalless stretch after Sullivan spun and finished her second of the game to bring the Hawks back within 10. Sullivan than set up junior Abigail Christmas (Elmira, N.Y.) a few minutes later to make it a 14-5 game, but Kyle Johnston completed her hat trick to push Assumption's lead back up to 10 goals, a lead they took into the fourth quarter.
  • After nearly 10 minutes without a goal in the final period of play, junior Kendra Sabotka (Rutland, Vt.) scored on a free-position opportunity for Saint Anselm to make it 15-6, Assumption, but Kyle Johnston added a late goal and the Greyhounds cruised to a 16-6 victory.
