WINCHENDON, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team split their two-game New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) series against Franklin Pierce University following an overtime loss, 2-1, on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman Hailey Tullo ( ) ripped the opening shot on target forcing an early save from the Ravens goalie Jill Hertl. Shortly after, Franklin Pierce earned the first power play chance of the night just over a minute into play, but the Hawks defense held the Ravens to just one shot that was blocked by freshman Julianna Herman (The Pas, Manitoba).
- Saint Anselm continued to outshoot their opponents 14-3 nearing the midway point of the period, but a scramble in front of the Hawks net resulted in Mikayla Kelley goal to put the Ravens ahead 1-0. The Hawks captured their first power play chance late in the first period registering six shot attempts, four of which Hertl saved, however, Franklin Pierce would head into the break with the 1-0 advantage.
- The Hawks started the second period going up a skater after McKenzie Rich was whistled for a holding penalty at the 2:29 mark. A few seconds into the power play, Tullo capitalized for Saint Anselm with a score of the helpers from senior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and junior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) to tie the game at 1-1.
- The Ravens picked up three more power play chances in the second period combining for 11 shots, five of which junior goalie Annabella Lalande (Lachute, Quebec) saved, but were unable to find the back of the net. Saint Anselm had the extra skater late in the period but was also unable to convert after producing five shots with three from senior Brinna Martin (St. Michael, Minn).
- Both teams exchanged shots through the opening minutes of the third period before Franklin Pierce secured their fifth power play opportunity at the 8:34 mark. Alexandria Cistolo fired a dangerous shot that deflected off the pipe, but the Hawks successfully killed the power play thanks to a block apiece from Herman and senior Abigail Blair (Grand Island, N.Y.) along with another save by Lalande. Although Saint Anselm created more chances in their attacking zone producing 14 shots in the last 10 minutes of regulation, the game would head into overtime still level at 1-1.
- About a minute into the overtime period, senior Savannah Popick (South Windsor, Conn.) fired a shot that Hertl was able to stop. The Ravens quickly countered as Kelley lasered a shot into the upper left netting to secure the 2-1 victory for Franklin Pierce.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm outshot Franklin Pierce 30-24 while the Ravens held a 17-14 edge in total blocks in the game.
- The Ravens were successfully from the faceoff dot winning 39-of-64 draws in the contest as senior Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.) lead the Hawks with her 10 wins off 18 draw attempts.
- The Hawks scored once during their four power-play chances and killed all five of the Ravens man advantages, limiting their opponents to just six combined shots.
- Tullo tallied the lone Hawk goal in the loss, her third of the season, while Tulchinsky and Donovan each recorded an assist apiece.
- Lalande made her eighth start between the pipes for Saint Anselm posting 22 saves and allowing two goals.
