HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers started the game by firing five shots, three of which were saved by freshman goalie Courtney Stagman (Andover, Minn.), in the opening two minutes of play, respectively. With just over four minutes into the period, sophomore Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) gave Saint Anselm the early 1-0 lead with her score off the helper from senior Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.).
- The Hawks earned their first power play chance of the game following a tripping call on Sophie Lupone with junior Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) ripping two of the five shots during the man advantage. Shortly after, Saint Anselm had the extra skater again but the Pioneers held the Hawks to just two shots, both coming from Schneiderhan. Sacred Heart posted six late shots in the period but Schneiderhan's goal would keep Saint Anselm ahead 1-0 heading into the second period.
- Saint Anselm's offense strung together eight consecutive shots towards the midway point of the second period before the Pioneers Paige McNeil evened the game at 1-1. Less than a minute later, Sacred Heart took a 2-1 lead after Isabella Chaput found the back of the net at the 10:28 mark.
- Sacred Heart would go up 3-1 after capitalizing on a power play opportunity with McNeil scoring her second goal of the night. Senior Brinna Martin (St. Michael, Minn.) answered for the Hawks scoring her fourth goal of the season at the 14:38 mark assisted by senior Natalie Tulchinky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and junior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.). Scared Heart would double their advantage to 4-2 before the end of the period thanks to a score by Sophie Lupone.
- Both teams exchanged early shots in the third period of the game, but Cassie Nevers would score another power-play goal for the Pioneers at the 5:31 mark to take a 5-2 lead. Nevers slotted the sixth goal of the game for Scared Heart just past the halfway point of the third period to extend their advantage by four goals. Saint Anselm continued to battle firing eight shot attempts in the final five minutes of the game, but Sacred Heart would eventually cement the 6-2 victory.
