HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Chester struck first in the game's eighth minute, when Jasmine Miller found the back of the net off a rebound of a stopped Adriana Palumbo shot. The goal gave the Golden Rams the 1-0 edge.
- Saint Anselm evened the score at 1-1 in the game's second quarter, when after being denied on a penalty stroke by West Chester keeper Alina Buerger, Burchill sent home an Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) pass.
- A flurry of penalty corners by Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) and the Hawks in the game's third period all came up empty, as the team's completed the third quarter without a score.
- West Chester dominated play for much of the game's final stanza, taking nine of the team's 14 penalty corners in the frame. The Golden Rams best opportunity came with just under two minutes remaining in regulation, when Olivai Quagliero hit the post with a shot from the left side. At the end of regulation the score remained knotted at 1-1.
- In the first overtime frame, neither team recorded a shot until Sutton-Brown fired in the Ava Rayfield (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) pass on a breakaway, giving the Hawks the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The loss snapped a 17-match winning streak West Chester held over Northeast-10 opponents.
- The contest was the first between the two programs since both met Nov. 24, 2019 in the NCAA Division II National Championship game, a 2-1 victory for the Golden Rams.
- Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Twp, Maine) recorded six saves on the afternoon, allowing just one goal in the team's victory. Her counterpart, Alina Buerger was credited with just one stop on three shots on goal faced on the afternoon.
- West Chester took 17 penalty corners in the contest, nine in the fourth quarter alone, compared to just six for Saint Anselm.
- This was just the third-ever meeting between the two teams and the first in Manchester, N.H., with both regular-season meetings (2016, 2023) going the way of the Hawks. The only other matchup was in the 2019 national title game.
