PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team dropped its Northeast-10 Conference battle with Pace University by an 18-7 score on Saturday.
With the loss, the Hawks, who are ranked No. 19 in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division II National Poll, drop to 9-3 on the season and 5-3 in conference games. The Setters, who are No. 2 in the same poll, improve to 11-1 overall and remain unbeaten in NE10 play at 8-0.
Senior
Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) and junior
Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) led the Hawks with three points each in the contest. Cobain netted one goal and added two assists while Sullivan scored a pair of goals and assisted on one. Junior
Maggie Fitzgerald (Holliston, Mass.) added two goals for the Hawks offense on the day. Junior
Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) was credited with one goal and one assist for two points in the game.
The Setters opened the scoring at 13:46 of the first quarter from the cross of
Alexandra Quinn. Pace continued to find the back of the cage throughout the first stanza and would lead by a 9-0 score through the opening 15 minutes of play.
After a goal from
Angelina Porcello at 9:10 of the second quarter, the Hawks would get on the scoreboard with a down goal from Ferullo at 5:40.
Pace would add three goals before the halftime break and would open the third quarter with two goals before Sullivan netted her first goal of the game at 9:10 of the third.
Saint Anselm would go on a four-goal run starting with Cobain's lone goal of the contest at 3:32 of the third. The Hawks would get goals from freshman
Lucy Davis (Roswell, Ga.), Fitzgerald, and Sullivan before the teams traded scores late in the fourth, pushing the score to its final of 18-7.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) made 10 saves in three quarters of action for the Hawks before junior
Tess Froio (Hull, Mass.) made two stops in 15 minutes of work.
The Setters held a 39-17 advantage in shot attempts and a 30-15 edge in shots on goal. Saint Anselm was 14-for-18 in clear attempts while Pace was a perfect 15-for-15. The Setters also held a 20-10 advantage in ground balls and collected 18 draw controls compared to nine for the Hawks.
Saint Anselm will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 18 in a conference battle at in-state foe Franklin Pierce University. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. opening draw control.
