Men's cross country places 19th at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Saint Anselm College men's cross country team concluded the 48th annual Paul Short Run in 19th out of 40 teams in the Men's College White 8K race.

The Paul Short Run featured over 5,500 student-athletes from over 450 colleges and universities. The Hawks, as a team, ran in the "White" race while individual runners competed in the "Open" competition.

In the team race which featured 40 programs and 344 student-athletes, the Hawks were led by junior Chris Hogan (Plymouth, Mass.) who posted a time of 27:02.7 which was good for a 106th place finish in the 8K race. Junior Tyler Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) placed 110th with a time of 27:07.1.

Freshmen Neil Harrington (Malden, Mass.) and Andrew Keene (Kennebunk, Maine) produced times of 27:13.0 and 27:13.1 to close the event in 120th and 121st respectively. Juniors Patrick Kennedy (Milton, Mass.) and Trevor Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) turned in times of 27:33.4 and 27:35.2 to finish ahead of senior Alex Horan (Clifton, Va.) who was 163rd with a time of 27:45.3.

Junior Adam Wong (Westminster, Mass.), senior Tom Nelson (Gorham, Maine), and junior Josh Nottebart (Pelham, N.H.) rounded out the Hawks team competitors. Wong posted a 28:15.7 while Nelson and Nottebart turned in 8K times of 28:30.6 and 29:09.6 respectively.

The Hawks also had seven student-athletes compete in the open race with freshman Christian Wetzel (Pembroke, Mass.) leading the Saint Anselm competitors with a time of 28:42.7. Classmate Brandon LeBlanc (Wrentham, Mass.) turned in a time of 29:35.9.

Freshman Thomas Sullivan (Arlington, Va.), sophomore Nick Longo (Bridgewater, Mass.), junior Chris Yapp (Stow, Mass.), junior Andrew Pitney (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and senior Liam Reeve (Kittery, Maine) battled as individuals in the 8K with Sullivan producing a 30:45.1 while Longo and Yapp crossed the line at 31:24.4 and 31:50.0. Pitney and Reeve posted times of 32:38.1 and 33:47.0.

Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the NEICAAA Cross Country Championship from Boston, Mass.
