Saint Anselm (2-3, 1-0 NE10), the No. 6 team in NCAA Division II, recently snuck past Pace University by a 1-0 margin. The game prior, the Hawks exploded for eight goals in a shutout victory of Saint Michael's College on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Adelphi carries a 2-4 overall record into play. The Panthers opened the year with a 4-3 overtime victory over New Haven, ranked 10th in the nation at the time, but have since lost four of their next five games – each of those defeats has come at the hands of a nationally-ranked opponent.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm logged a 1-0 victory over Pace on Saturday, getting the win over the team that eliminated the Hawks from last season's conference playoffs.
- Just 7:11 into the second half of the Pace game (which was delayed by one hour), senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season by sending in a left-to-right cross that rode up the stick of the Pace defender and right into the goal.
- The last shot of the game was off the stick of a Pace player with under 10 minutes to go, but Hawks netminder Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) made the last of her three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
- In her 21-game career, McConnell now has 10 shutouts and is riding a scoreless streak of 138:25 – the Hawks have not been scored upon since the third quarter against No. 3 East Stroudsburg on Sept. 10.
- The Hawks have won 31 of the last 35 games played at Grappone Stadium since the start of the 2018 season. Carolyn King-Robitaille, in the midst of her 11th season as Head Coach at Saint Anselm has won 121 games with just 61 losses (.665) in her tenure on the Hilltop.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
- The Panthers exploded for a 9-0 victory over Southern Connecticut State University last time out as seven scored goals for Adelphi in the convincing win. SCSU was limited to just one shot on goal that occurred midway through the second stanza.
- Adelphi is led by Ali Nagy and her four goals of offense. Kaylee Deleva, the reigning NE10 Player of the Year, has chipped in with three goals and is matched with six points by Giana McKeough, who has put home two goals and two assists.
- The Panthers, who lost to Assumption in the NE10 title game last season, were selected fourth in the annual NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, released in mid-August. Adelphi made it all the way to the NCAA First Round last year, falling to No. 4-ranked West Chester by a three-goal margin.
- Adelphi is coached by Jess Mulhern, a 2012 graduate of Adelphi, who was the Head Coach at Limestone since the 2017 campaign.
ALL-TIME vs. ADELPHI
- Adelphi holds a 9-6 lead in the all-time series, but Saint Anselm has claimed the "W" in four of the last five games.
- Last time out, Adelphi came away with a narrow 2-1 win. The last time the Hawks hosted the Panthers came in 2018 – Saint Anselm logged a 3-2 victory by scoring three times in the second half in a game that featured a significant weather-related delay.
