PREVIEW: No. 6 field hockey takes on Saint Michael's

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The sixth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team will host Saint Michael's College on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.

Saint Anselm owns an 0-3 record to start the season, having played the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 7-ranked teams in the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association coaches' poll. The Hawks stayed at No. 6 in the national poll this week, recognizing the caliber of opponent the team has opened with.

Saint Michael's owns a matching 0-3 record, facing No. 5 Kutztown and Mansfield (Pa.) at the Kutztown Invitational to open the year. Most recently, the Purple Knights were a part of history, falling to Southern New Hampshire by a 2-1 margin in what was the first night home game in Saint Michael's history.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Junior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine was named Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week on Monday. Earlier this season, McConnell also picked up NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week.
  • In a 2-0 loss to No. 3 East Stroudsburg on Saturday, McConnell was tested throughout the game, making five stops in the first half and six in the second half. In total, East Stroudsburg fired 15 shots in the game with just two of those attempts beating McConnell.
  • Sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) has the lone goal of the season for Saint Anselm – senior Avery Tucker (Westbrook, Maine) picked up the lone assist on the play against Millersville. At the time, the goal tied the game at one but the Marauders picked up a late goal to lock down the victory on Sept. 4.
  • The Hawks have won 30 of the last 34 games played at Grappone Stadium since the start of the 2018 season. Carolyn King-Robitaille, in the midst of her 11th season as Head Coach at Saint Anselm has won 119 games with just 61 losses (.661) in her tenure on the Hilltop.

SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S

  • Saint Michael's has begun the 2022 season with an 0-3 record. Owning a -13 goal differential, the Purple Knights have potted two goals to date as sophomore Rees Lord and Bridgie Loughlin have each struck for Saint Michael's.
  • The Purple Knights held advantages in shots (11-7) and penalty corners (4-2) against Southern New Hampshire last time out. The game was the first outdoor night game ever played on campus, after the installation of permanent lights at Duffy Field this past summer.
  • Saint Michael's returns six regular starters from a season ago and another four who saw action in at least 10 games off the bench. Two transfers joined the roster this season, including Courtney Watt (Vermont) and Anna Comiskey (Castleton).

ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S

  • Saint Michael's owns a 15-12 record against the Hawks in the all-time series that dates back to 2001, the inaugural season of field hockey on the Hilltop.
  • Saint Anselm has won each of the last eight meetings between both teams, limiting the Purple Knights to just five goals in that span.
  • The very first win for Saint Anselm over a nationally-ranked opponent came against Saint Michael's on Sept. 30, 2004, a 1-0 victory at Duffy Field.
