MANCHESTER, N.H. – Eight student-athletes found the back of the cage for the No. 20 Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team, who downed Saint Michael's College by an 18-4 score in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in NE10 play while the Purple Knights falls to 1-4 with a 0-2 mark against the league. Next up for the Hawks is a trip to Springfield, Mass. for conference tilt with American International on Saturday, Mar. 26. The action is set for a 1 p.m. opening draw control.
Sophomore
Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) led all players with seven points, coming from two goals and five assists. Sophomore
Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, Mass.) added a career-high four goals for Saint Anselm.
Junior
Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) netted five goals in the contest which extends her streak to four games with five or more goals. The last time a Saint Anselm student-athlete had a three-game stretch with five or more goals came in the 2013 season when
Marissa Daly '15 scored five or more in three games from Mar. 9, 2013 to Mar. 16, 2013.
Senior
Grace Young (Merrimack, N.H.) made two saves on six shots on goal, earning the win and improving to 4-1 on the season. Freshman
Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) made her collegiate debut in relief and made three saves in just over 17 minutes of action.
Freshmen
Kendra Sabotka (Rutland, Vt.),
Jaycie Balboni (Billerica, Mass.),
Abigail Robbins (Essex Junction, Vt.), junior
Julia Silk (North Andover, Mass.), and Driscoll all made their collegiate debuts in the contest. Sabotka scored her first collegiate goal in the fourth quarter for the Hawks.
The Hawks netted five of the first six goals to open the contest as Saint Anselm grabbed a 2-0 edge on goals from Palmisano and Sullivan. However, goal by
Catie Murphy got the Purple Knights on the board and set up a three-goal run by Palmisano, senior
Jenna Balboni (Billerica, Mass.), and Sullivan, jumping out to 5-1 lead. The squads traded goals in the closing minutes of the first quarter, setting up a 6-2
advantage for Saint Anselm through 15 minutes of play.
After a Stuzynski goal opened the second quarter,
Erin Stolz got the scoring in the Purple Knights favor but six consecutive goals in the second quarter pushed Saint Anselm to a 13-3 halftime lead.
Saint Michael's cut the Hawks lead to single digits will an early third quarter goal from
Addy Fenton but the game's final five goals would go the Hawks way, leading to the 18-4 win.
