Softball returns to New Hampshire after 6-0 shutout of Minnesota-Crookston

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College softball team secured a 6-0 shutout victory over the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday.

Saint Anselm moves to 7-8 on the year and will return to action against Adelphi on Saturday, Mar. 26 at home. The first Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader of the year is schedule to begin at high noon from the South Athletic Fields.

Sophomore pitcher Haile Hicks (Jefferson, N.H.) delivered her second shutout of the season against Minnesota-Crookston, throwing seven innings while striking out eight batters and issuing just five hits. On the season, she improves to 7-1 overall with an earned-run average of 1.46 across 57-plus innings.

Firing four shutouts on the season, Hicks threw a six-inning no-hitter against Minnesota-Crookston on Mar. 17 and has given up no more than two earned runs across eight of her first nine games pitched this season.

Freshman shortstop Julia Howse (North Reading, Mass.) picked up two hits for Saint Anselm, who pounded out 10 of them on the day. Freshman outfielder Ava Caputo (Waterford, N.Y.) also smacked her first collegiate home run in the fifth inning, providing the final score of 6-0 with a solo shot to left field.

After three scoreless innings, the Hawks got on the board with a two-RBI single by Howse that drove in both Caputo and sophomore Gracie O'Hara (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Saint Anselm struck twice more in the same inning as two runs scored on a wild pitch, throwing error combination by the Golden Eagles.

Junior Kylie Fitzpatrick (Danville, N.H.) tacked on another run for the Hawks in the inning as a sacrifice fly to right field drove in the fifth run of the afternoon.

Both teams left eight runners on base as Hicks was able to induce seven ground outs on the day. A trio of Minnesota-Crookston pitchers allowed 10 hits and six earned runs.
