MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team picked up a 7-1 victory over visiting Southern Connecticut State University on Friday at a rainy Grappone Stadium.
The Hawks improve to 12-5 on the season with the non-league win, running the season-long winning streak to seven games. Southern Connecticut State drops to 5-13 overall, losing to Saint Anselm for the second time in 2022.
Senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) set the single-season goals record at Saint Anselm with her fourth hat trick of the year, giving her 17 to pass Kristina Katsikis '12 in the record book. Junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) notched an assist, tying the single-season record with 10 helpers on the year.
Malloy scored three of her team's first three goals on the way to a comfortable 4-1 lead. Junior Abbey Bevens (Pelham, N.H.), sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.), junior Shannon Walsh (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Liv Strange (Tyngsborough, Mass.) added goals in the winning effort.
Saint Anselm fired 26 of the game's 35 shots, placing 17 on net. The Hawks were also awarded 15 penalty corners while the Owls picked up all seven of theirs in the second half.
Junior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) earned the victory in net for Saint Anselm, conceding just one goal. Sophomore Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) performed admirably in relief, turning away four second-half shots to lock down the win.
Southern Connecticut State, who scored its lone goal off the stick of Brianna Caffrey, saw 10 saves from netminder Kaitlyn Parent.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 12, taking on New Haven in Connecticut at 1 p.m. to wrap up the regular-season schedule.
