Saint Anselm is fresh off a 2-0 week that saw victories against Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday and a 4-0 shutout at Mercy (N.Y.) on Saturday. The clean sheet for the Hawks was the team's fifth of the 2022 seas as the Hawks have now won five of their last six games.
Franklin Pierce carries a 4-8 overall record into play, losing its last game against No. 7 Assumption on Wednesday, 6-1. The five-goal loss snapped what was a modest four-game winning streak for the Ravens, who outscored the opposition by a 12-5 margin in that stretch.
American International has compiled a 2-11 overall record and has lost seven matches in a row entering it's Tuesday night game against Pace at home. The Yellow Jackets have won a 4-3 overtime showdown at Franklin Pierce on Wednesday, Sept. 14 before posting a 2-1 win at home against Molloy on Saturday, Sept. 24.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Senior Joanna Archambault (Andover, Mass.) was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, scoring the game-winning goal on Wednesday against Southern New Hampshire and later helping the Hawks to a 4-0 road shutout of Mercy (N.Y.) on Saturday.
- On the season, Archambault has appeared in 12 games and has helped Saint Anselm to the nation's second best save percentage (0.859) and the third-best goals-against average (0.83). The Hawks rank seventh nationally in shutouts per game (0.42) as well.
- Senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) had a hand in all four goals against Mercy (N.Y.), assisting on the first goal of the game by junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) and scoring each of the next three to create the final score. Saint Anselm enjoyed a 26-8 advantage in shots taken and was awarded 11 of the game's 15 penalty corners.
- Malloy's seven-point afternoon equals a program record matched prior by only Carly LaCasse '22 (Oct. 12, 2019 vs. Pace) and Hannah Friend '20 (Sept. 17, 2017 at Saint Thomas Aquinas). She now has 10 points across her last two games and has recorded at least one point in all but one of her last six games.
- The Hawks have won 33 of the last 37 games played at home since the start of the 2018 season. Carolyn King-Robitaille, in the midst of her 11th season as Head Coach at Saint Anselm has won 126 games with just 64 losses (.663) in her tenure on the Hilltop.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
- Franklin Pierce is averaging 8.42 saves per game, ranking sixth in NCAA Division II entering the week while also ranking fourth in the NE10 in that metric. Starting netminder Addy Araneo has compiled 7.4 saves per game for the Ravens so far this season.
- Sophomore Caity Hazley is the team's leading offensive player, scoring six goals with an assist for 13 points (6-1=13) in 12 games (all starts) for the Ravens). Gabi Sturgeon, a senior, is not far behind with four goals and an assist for nine points (4-1=9).
- Hazley has scored at least one goal in four of her last seven games, posting a goal and an assist against American International on Oct. 11.
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
- AIC has scored just one goal in its last two games and has been shutout six times this season. Last time out, the Yellow Jackets scored a late goal against Saint Thomas Aquinas in the game's 57th minute but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 2-1.
- Graduate student Nicole Mercadante is the team leader with seven points of offense via two goals and three assists (2-3=7). She is trailed by both Logan Shunney (2-2=6) and Shannon Cormier (1-4=6), the latter of whom has a team-best four assists.
- Taylor Wildes has started all 13 games for the Yellow Jackets, posting a goals-against average of 2.84 and a save percentage of .688. Back Morgan Martellio has a team-best two defensive saves for American International.
ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE, AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
- Saint Anselm holds the narrow 20-16 edge in the all-time series that dates back to 2001, the inaugural season of varsity field hockey on the Hilltop.
- Wednesday's game against the Ravens will be the 38th all-time meeting between both programs, far and away the most frequent opponent for the Hawks field hockey team in history.
- The Hawks own a 15-game winning streak over Franklin Pierce dating back to Sept. 17, 2013, an overtime win at Grappone Stadium.
- The Hawks enjoy an 18-8 advantage in the all-time series against American International that dates back to 2001.
- Saint Anselm has won each of the last six games against AIC, conceding just one goal across that winning streak. The Hawks have racked up 27 goals in that span.
