MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team suffered a 2-0 loss to Long Island University in New England Women's Hockey Alliance play on Saturday.

With the loss, the Hawks drop to 2-7-0 overall and 2-2-0 in NEWHA contests while the Sharks move to 3-6-0 on the season and 2-1-0 in league games. Saint Anselm will battle Sacred Heart University from the Sports Center of Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29, both in NEWHA play.

Senior goaltender Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) turned aside 20 shots on goal for the Hawks and now sits on 1,360 saves as a member of the Saint Anselm women's ice hockey program, tying Amy Zappen '12 for the top spot in career saves.

Freshman Brooklyn Pancoast (Helena, Mont.) led the Hawks with four shots on goal in the contest while five Hawks sat on three shots on target. Saint Anselm held a 29-22 edge in shots on goal in the tilt.

LIU's Ashley Morrow opened the scoring at 16:46 of the first period. The Sharks had managed to win a loose puck inside the Saint Anselm defensive end and Morrow snuck a shot into the back of the net, beating Kelley on the left side of the goal.

The Hawks held an 11-3 advanatge in shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of play but the Sharks held a 1-0 edge.

After a scoreless second period, which saw 21 shots on target between the teams, Paige Vreeman doubled the LIU lead at 9:43 of the third stanza. Paula Bergström sent a shot from the point which was redirected by Vreeman from the slot, pushing the score to 2-0.

Following the second LIU tally, the Hawks upped the tempo looking to crack the scoreboard and they would hold a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal in the final 10:17. However, Saint Anselm was unable to beat the Sharks net minder Tindra Holm as LIU posted a 2-0 win.

Kelley turned aside 20 of 22 shots on goal for the Hawks while Holm posted a 29-save shutout for the Sharks.

Neither side capitalized on their power play chances as LIU was scoreless in two opportunities compared to three for Saint Anselm.
