Saint Anselm has not allowed a regulation goal in its last five games, improving to 4-4 overall on the season and to 3-1 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The No. 10-ranked Hawks have won four of their last five fixtures dating back to Saturday, Sept. 17.
Bentley carries a 5-5 record into play on Wednesday against the Hawks, having defeated Saint Thomas Aquinas by a 3-0 margin on Saturday just days after falling to Assumption in overtime, 1-0. When playing at home this season, the Falcons have compiled a 3-1 overall record.
Saint Thomas Aquinas played Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday, Oct. 11 before hosting the Hawks on Saturday. Entering the week with a 3-5 record on the year, Saint Thomas Aquinas racked up a 7-7 record against NE10 opponents one season ago.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm has not allowed a regulation goal across its last 318:25 minutes of regulation time – the last goal scored outside of overtime by a Hawks opponent was Hanna Lewis of No. 3 East Stroudsburg on Sept. 10.
- Senior forward Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) was selected by the Northeast-10 Conference as its Player of the Week on Monday. She scored four goals across two games, including the game-winning goal in both contests – she scored first in a pair of shutouts for Saint Anselm.
- Against Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, Malloy scored the first, third and fifth goals for the Hawks, recording the first hat trick for Saint Anselm since Hannah Friend '20 scored three times against Mercy (N.Y.) on Oct. 23, 2019. Opening the scoring just 2:27 into the tilt, she scored her team's fifth and final goal in the 21st minute.
- The Hawks midfield and defensive units kept the Owls without a shot until the fourth quarter. Saint Anselm netminder Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.), who entered the game at halftime to make her season debut, was forced to make five saves to preserve the shutout. Junior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) started the game in goal for Saint Anselm and was not forced to make a save.
- The Hawks have won 32 of the last 36 games played at Grappone Stadium since the start of the 2018 season. Carolyn King-Robitaille, in the midst of her 11th season as Head Coach at Saint Anselm has won 123 games with just 63 losses (.661) in her tenure on the Hilltop.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
- The Falcons, who finished the 2021 campaign with a 14-6 overall record, lost three of their first four games to open the season but have since racked up wins in four of the team's last six. Two of those contests were decided in overtime.
- Bentley owns a 3-1 record when playing at home this season. The Falcons were 9-3 when defending their own turf in 2021 on the way to an NCAA Division II Championship appearance.
- Lida Coco has five goals and two assists for 12 points (5-2=12) in 10 games this season, all of them starts. She has produced three game-winning goals on the year.
- Sophomore Erin McGuinness was selected as the NE10 Rookie of the Week on Monday, allowing just one goal while making four saves against Assumption and Saint Thomas Aquinas. She is one of three netminders for Bentley, all of whom have earned significant playing time this season.
- The Falcons are assisted by Jackie Guillemette '18, a four-year standout for the Hawks field hockey team from 2014-17. In her Hawks career, she scored five game-winning goals and was a part of 52 victories at Saint Anselm. She was also a key part of the team's first two NCAA postseason appearances.
SCOUTING SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS
- The Spartans have lost three in a row and have been outscored 7-0 in that span.
- Last time out, Southern Connecticut State was outshot by Saint Thomas Aquinas by a dominant 29-5 margin, but the host Owls picked up a 3-0 victory. STAC was also issued nine of the game's 10 penalty corners.
- The Spartans also outshot Bentley by a commanding margin last Saturday, 11-5, but lost by a similar 3-0 score. Saint Thomas Aquinas netminders have logged four shutouts but have registered just a 70% save percentage with 15 goals allowed on 50 shots.
- Nicola Van Vuuren has provided an offensive punch for STAC, scoring four goals with two assists for 10 points (4-2=10).
ALL-TIME vs. BENTLEY, SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS
- Saint Anselm has won nine of the 28 meetings with Bentley in the all-time series. The Hawks, however, have won eight of the last nine fixtures and currently own a seven-match winning streak.
- Bentley won 16 in a row to begin the rivalry before Saint Anselm earned a victory on Oct. 20, 2011.
- The Hawks have won all six meetings against Saint Thomas Aquinas with a scoring differential of 37-to-3.
