PREVIEW: No. 8 field hockey set to face Adelphi on Monday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 8-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team travels to Adelphi University on Monday, Oct. 4 for a 3 p.m. tilt with the Panthers. The game was originally slated for Saturday, Sept. 18 but was rescheduled for Monday.

Saint Anselm has won four matches in a row, recently moving to 55-6 when playing at Grappone Stadium since the start of the 2015 season. Adelphi has lost three consecuticve games, taking on No. 5 Stonehill, No. 3 Assumption and, last time out, Bentley.

Fans are asked to familiarize themselves with the home spectator policy for Adelphi athletics.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Last time out, Saint Anselm came away with a 4-1 victory over visiting Saint Thomas Aquinas College at Grappone Stadium.
  • The Hawks were led by senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and her two goals, giving her 23 in her career on the Hilltop. She currently ranks seventh all-time in career point scoring (23-8=54), jumping from ninth place all the way to seventh in team annals, passing Meagan Halligan '16 and Mia Vecchione '18 on the all-time list.
  • LaCasse has scored seven game-winning goals in her career, ranking third all-time behind Allia Connolly '18 and Michelle Lemelin '20 who each scored 10 in their careers.
  • Freshman Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) conceded one goal on two shots, earning the victory in net. The Hawks held the distinct advantage in shots (22-4) and also were awarded seven of the game's nine penalty corners.
  • Junior Maeve Murphy (Scituate, Mass.) became the program's first two-time NE10 Player of the Week award winner on Sept. 27, scoring three goals last week including two of the game-winning variety. Murphy is now one of just seven student-athletes in team history to be selected for the league's highest weekly honors.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

  • Adelphi compiled an impressive 14-5 record in 2019, including a 12-2 mark in NE10 play, but the Panthers have come out in the 2021 season with a 3-4 overall record after losing three of their first four league games.
  • Adelphi started out with a 2-0 record, beating New Haven and Saint Thomas Aquinas, but have since dropped four of their last five games.
  • The Panthers were picked to finish third in the NE10 preseason poll prior to the 2021 season as the team welcomes back 11 student-athletes from the 2019 roster.
  • Kaylee Deleva leads the Panthers with six goals in six games, racking up 13 points of offense to date (6-1=13). Giana McKeough and Kelsey Catalano each have posted three goals on the year.
  • Amanda Montiel has conceded 10 goals on 33 shots on net, posting a 3-3 record in goal for the Panthers.

ALL-TIME vs. ADELPHI

  • Adelphi owns the 8-6 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to Sept. 6, 2009.
  • Saint Anselm has won each of the last four meetings between the two programs, scoring three goals in each of the last three contests. The Hawks have two shutouts of Adelphi in that span.
