No. 6 field hockey caps regular season with 2-0 shutout

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team wrapped up the regular season of competition on Friday, downing the University of New Haven by a 2-0 margin at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks head to the Northeast-10 Conference postseason with a 14-4 overall record alongside an 11-3 mark in league competition. With just three defeats against conference foes, the Hawks can fall no lower than the fourth seed in the upcoming NE10 playoffs.

Saint Anselm will host a Quarterfinals game to begin the upcoming NE10 Championship on Monday, Nov. 1 against an opponent to be determined. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on the Hilltop.

Senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) scored each of her team's two goals on Friday against the Chargers – with the game-winning goal, she now has 11 in her Saint Anselm career, establishing a new team record. She broke the previous mark of 10, equaled by both Michelle Lemelin '20 and Allia Connolly '18.

For her career, LaCasse has now scored 31 goals and nine assists for 71 career points (31-9=71) to rank fourth all-time in Saint Anselm career history and requires just four additional points of offense to jump to second.

Saint Anselm got on the scoreboard just 2:04 into the contest and never looked back, using a goal set up by junior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) to put the Hawks ahead for good. LaCasse's second goal came just 6:15 into the second half as she tipped home a long blast by junior Shelby Dunn (Yarmouthport Mass.) near the goalmouth, upping the Saint Anselm lead to 2-0.

Sophomore Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) was not forced to make a save as the Hawks defense did not concede a shot on goal. New Haven's Keira Integlia made 13 saves while Sophia Ruh made a defensive save in the contest for the Chargers.

Saint Anselm has posted 29 shutouts (nine this season) in the team's last 41 games since the start of the 2019 season. The Hawks finished the year as the national runner-up in NCAA Division II and set a record for shutouts in a season (20), winning each of their games without conceding a goal.

Saint Anselm held the statistical edge in shots taken (18-to-3) and was awarded 11 of the game's 15 penalty corners.
