FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Five members of the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships on Friday at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Saint Anselm had five individuals compete in the singles qualifying rounds and two doubles teams play in the main draw on Friday. Eric Howes and Colby Antonacci each won their first round matches in singles qualifying before falling in the second round. Two wins in qualifying were necessary to advance to the main draw on Saturday.
Howes opened the day with an 8-6 victory over Franklin Pierce's Yuval Barak, before falling 8-2 to Stanislas Bedrune of Queens (N.Y.). Antonacci recorded an 8-4 win against Merrimack's Thomas O'Brien in the opening round but lost 8-0 to Roberts Wesleyan's Dennis Barlotta in his second match of the day. Adam Weinstein, Benji Page and Daniel Kmetz each were defeated in their first round singles matches.
