No. 5 field hockey turns away Saint Michael's, 3-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Three different goal scorers set the pace for the fifth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over Saint Michael's College at Grappone Stadium.

Box Score

Ranked fifth in all of NCAA Division II, the Hawks improve to 6-0 on the year and earn their second-straight Northeast-10 Conference victory. Saint Michael's dips to 2-4 on the season after drawing its second 3-1 defeat at the hands of Saint Anselm this season.

Katie Neyland opened the scoring for Saint Anselm in the game's seventh minute, intercepting a Purple Knights clearance attempt and finding the back of the goal to create an early advantage. Leika Scott moved the Hawks in front by a 2-0 score only minutes later as a corner by Erin Collins set up an assisting pass by Mia Vecchione.

Marieke Algie potted her first goal of the season for Saint Michael's in the 23rd minute of play, but Emma Kincaid capped the game with an unassisted goal at 65:59 to lessen the pressure of what was once a one-goal contest.

Saint Anselm held the 14-to-5 advantage in shots taken and was awarded 10 of the game's 12 penalty corners.

Freshman Julia Hand improved to 4-0 on the season for Saint Anselm, making four saves on five shots. Anna Hurley drew the loss for the Purple Knights, yielding three goals on five shots faced.

The Hawks have a tough task this Saturday, Sept. 23 as they look to defeat nationally-ranked Pace in a 1 p.m. tilt at Grappone Stadium.
