Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Kavanagh and Pearson win in singles in loss to Roberts Wesleyan

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Singles wins from Brian Kavanagh and Alex Pearson and a doubles victory from Adam Weinstein and Daniel Kmetz were not enough for the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team, as the Hawks fell 6-3 to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday at Saint Anselm Outdoor Courts.

Box Score

Roberts Wesleyan (1-0) got wins at second and third doubles to take a 2-0 lead before Weinstein and Kmetz got Saint Anselm (0-1) on the board. The pair edged Guilherme Plentz de Liz and Dennis Barlotta 9-7 at the top spot.

The Redhawks also started singles play quickly, picking up wins at the top-three spots to claim a 5-1 lead and put the match out of reach. However, Kavanagh and Pearson came out on top in their singles matches, as the Hawks won the final two matches on court.

Kavanagh won the first set of his match at No. 4 singles against Mathew Cruz in a tiebreak, only for Cruz to bounce back and take the second 6-2. In the decisive super tiebreak, Kavanagh emerged victorious 10-7 for the Hawks' second point.

Pearson closed out Dustin Eshleman in a tight tiebreaker in the second set as part of a 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) victory in the final match.

Saint Anselm plays at Holy Cross on Friday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m.
