MIDDLETON, Mass. – Brian Kavanagh and Benji Page were victorious in singles play as the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team was defeated 7-2 by Merrimack in the team's final match of the spring on Saturday afternoon at Northeast Tennis Center.

Kavanagh posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tyler Clontz at fourth singles, while Benji Page edged Thomas O'Brien 8-6 at the sixth spot for Saint Anselm (3-12, 2-8 NE-10). However, Merrimack (10-8, 9-1 NE-10) used a doubles sweep and four straight-set singles wins to win the match.
In doubles, the Warriors picked up an 8-3 win from Frank Vega and Miguel Belfort at the top spot and recorded 8-6 wins at the second and third positions. The pairs of Daniel Kmetz and Adam Weinstein and Alex Pearson and Robert Patenaude were edged in the tightly-contested matches at second and third doubles, respectively.
Merrimack's Mikhail Belov, Nick Majewski and Belfort notched straight-set wins at the top three singles flights, while Tayyab Sheikh recorded a win at No. 5 singles for the Warriors.
Kavanagh's 6-3, 6-3 win at the fourth spot was his third win in his last five Northeast-10 Conference matches. Page's abbreviated win over O'Brien at sixth singles was his fourth in the last five conference matches and saw him improve to 7-3 in NE-10 play.
Saint Anselm concludes its season at 3-12 overall and 2-8 in the NE-10. Ten of the 11 players on the Hawks' roster were freshmen or sophomores with Joe Cahill being the lone departing senior.
