RYE, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 win at Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon in a New England Hockey Conference matchup in Rye, N.Y.
The Hawks (20-5, 14-3 NEHC) will host the NEHC Open next weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Sullivan Arena, with game times and matchups to be announced on Monday by the league offices. Manhattanville finishes the regular season at 9-16-0 and 7-10-0 in NEHC games.
Martha Findley (Duxbury, Mass.) had a three-point day with a goal and two assists, while Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) had a goal and an assist and Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) handing out a pair of assists of her own. Hannah Synnott (Montclair, N.J.) improved to 18-3 on the year while picking up her eighth shutout while making 27-of-28 saves.
Ashley Moran (Woburn, Mass.) would open the scoring in the game as she broke free on a breakaway and beat Manhattanville's Rose Pijaca on the glove side 3:12 into the first period to give Saint Anselm the 1-0 lead. Kazmer entered the scoring column on the power play nearly seven minutes later as she buried a rebound on the backside of the goal. Sara McNamara (Danbury, Conn.) and Martha Findley picked up assists on Moran's tally, while Findley and Geisinger assisted on Kazmer's score.
The Hawks made it a 3-0 lead when Alex Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) converted a power play chance for Saint Anselm 7:17 into the second stanza. Kazmer and Geisinger were awarded assists on the play.
The Valiants cut into the deficit 11:48 into the third period as Synnott was able to stop a pair of shots in front before Jordan Roetzer jammed home a rebound to make it a 3-1 game. The Hawks answered back four minutes later as Martha Findley iced the game with her third goal of the season to seal the 4-1 victory.
The Hawks held a 35-28 advantage in shots in the game, while going 2-for-5 on power plays, and keeping Manhattanville off the board by killing all eight penalties.
