NEW LONDON, Conn. – Saint Anselm College had their five game winning-streak snapped with a 2-1 setback on the road at Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's ice hockey action in New London, Conn.
The Hawks fall to 16-3 overall, while the Camels have won three-straight to improve to 10-7-1.
Saint Anselm held a 25-9 advantage in shots on goal for the game. Both teams committed four penalties, with the Hawks going 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Camels went 1-for-4 with the extra skater.
Allison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Hawks 7:32 into the second period just as a power play chance expired for Saint Anselm. Alison Butler (Danvers, Mass.) and Jackie Guy (St. Louis, Mo.) picked up assists on the tally.
The Camels took advantage of a power play near the end of the second period as Jordan Cross scored off passes from Steph Izzi and Paige Michel to tie the game at 1-1 with only 3:22 remaining in the second stanza. Connecticut College pulled ahead 10:52 into the third period when Elena Gualtieri stuffed home a rebound off a shot from Stephanie Izzi to give the Camels a 2-1 advantage.
Saint Anselm tried to make a late charge, but the Camels' Katherine Chester made eight saves in the final period to help the Camels hang on for the one goal victory. Maddie Scavotto (East Falmouth, Mass.) stopped 7-of-9 shots for Saint Anselm in the setback.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Amherst College for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
