Kavanagh, Harris Move On, Then Out at USTA/ITA East Region Championship

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomores Brian Kavanagh (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Kyle Harris (No. Reading, Mass.) won a B doubles match at the USTA/ITA East Region Championship on Saturday at the Legacy Tennis Center.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Kavanagh and Harris defeated Klaudio Mehmeti and Duncan Henderson from the University of the Sciences, 8-1, before falling to Stonehill College's Thomas Bellio and Tom Buckley in a thrilling match, 9-8 (7-4).

WHAT ELSE HAPPENED?

  • Sophomores Eric Howes (Shawnee, Kan.) and Adam Weinstein (Vernon Rockville, Conn.) were ousted in the first round via an 8-5 loss to Daemen College's David Gonzalez Villegas and Andrew Lamar.
  • In the singles portion of the tournament, Weinstein dropped out in the first round with an 8-2 defeat against Stonehill's Jeffrey Gagnon.
  • Harris (Saint Thomas Aquinas College's Hugo Preussler-Teixeira), Kavanagh (Merrimack College's Thomas O'Brien) and Howes (Saint Thomas Aquinas' Roger Almato) did not get their singles matches in and will play Sunday.
