BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Kaitlyn Stazinski (Pembroke, Mass.) and junior Michelle Kudlate (Waltham, Mass.) each registered two points, but the 12th-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team was defeated by 10th-ranked Long Island University-LIU Post on Wednesday afternoon at Bethpage Stadium.
The Hawks dip to 3-3 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 6-2.
Stazinski scored a pair of goals, while Kudlate added a goal and an assist.
Cara Douglas put LIU Post out in front, 1-0, just 3:17 into the contest before Emily Delaney doubled the lead after receiving a feed from Connor Bird at the 22:37 mark.
Kudlate set up Stazinski's first tally at 16:48 to slice the Saint Anselm deficit in half, but Delaney scored again exactly a minute later off a Stefani Vagelatos pass to maintain the two-goal cushion for LIU Post.
Jenna Pierro found the back of the net at 14:17 and then Vagelatos converted a free-position opportunity at 12:54 to expand the lead to four before Douglas connected on a pass to Kaitlin Gaghan 39 seconds later to make it 6-1.
Kudlate stopped the bleeding with a free-position goal that cut it to 6-2 with 9:07 left in the opening half, but Pierro scored two straight and then set up a Gaghan strike to open the advantage to 9-2 with 4:34 on the clock. Stazinski netted an unassisted goal with 1:37 left to trim Saint Anselm's halftime deficit to 9-3.
That would be the Hawks' final goal of the game as the Pioneers added second-half goals from Honey Roche and Delaney to bring the score to its final margin.
Junior goalkeeper Jane Bunn (St. John's, Fla.) made nine saves, while Olivia Kirk stopped six of the nine shots she faced for LIU Post.
The Pioneers outshot the Hawks, 25-11, including 9-1 in the second stanza, and held a 12-4 advantage in draw controls. Saint Anselm went 1-for-4 on free-position shots, while LIU post was 1-for-3.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, March 28 at 3 p.m. when they travel to take on Pace University. Stay up-to-date with the latest news, including game previews and recaps, directly from the Saint Anselm College athletic department by liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter @STAHawks.
