BOSTON – Senior Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) potted a pair of power-play goals, but the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team was handed a 4-2 loss at the University of Massachusetts Boston on Friday afternoon at the Clark Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Geisinger scored a power-play goal in the second period and another in the third.
- Junior Alex Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) dished a pair of assists.
For the foes…
- Maren Brown and Kristina Bove each collected two assists.
- Jenny Currie notched a goal and an assist.
- Rachel Myette stopped 32 of 34 shots in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bove and Brown helped put the Beacons up 1-0 with 5:24 remaining in the first period as they set up a Kristen Embrey tally.
- Currie doubled the UMass Boston lead just 31 seconds later.
- Geisinger put the Hawks on board at the 7:13 mark of the middle stanza with a power-play goal off assists from Starzyk and senior Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.).
- Jane Morrisette regained the Beacons' two-goal lead just under three minutes later as she found the back of the net off helpers from Currie and Brown.
- UMB grabbed a commanding 4-1 lead just 2:57 into the third as Alexandra Karlis struck off passes from Katie Barry and Bove.
- Geisinger added another power-play goal with 4:23 on the clock as Starzyk and junior Martha Findley (Duxbury, Mass.) earned assists.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman goaltender Logan Knip (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) stopped 17 shots in her collegiate debut.
- Saint Anselm outshot UMass Boston, 34-17, including 13-3 in the final period.
- The game featured 12 penalties for a total of 24 minutes. The Hawks were 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Beacons went 0-for-7.
NOTES
- Kazmer earned her 75th career point, while Starzyk tallied her 50th.
