Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#9 Field Hockey Sets New Single-Season Win Mark with 2-0 Blanking of AIC

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Colleen Sears (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Emma Kincaid (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) each scored goals to lead the ninth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team past American International College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 action at Grappone Stadium.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Sears pulled even with Kincaid on her seventh goal of the season before Kincaid kept pace with her eighth of the year later in the contest.
  • Junior goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) turned away both shots she faced for her third shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hawks went up 1-0 early in the 21st minute as sophomore Mia Vecchione (Chelmsford, Mass.) dished a pass from the middle to the right post where Sears stuffed it home.
  • Saint Anselm would not double its lead until the 44th minute when sophomore Allia Connolly (Westford, Mass.) sent a feed from the right post toward the left side where Kincaid finished it.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Taylor Ross made 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
  • Saint Anselm outshot AIC, 17-7, and held an 11-8 advantage in penalty corners.

NOTES

  • Saint Anselm improves to 10-3, setting a new program record for wins in a single season. The previous record of nine victories was set during a 9-10 campaign in 2007, which is also the last time the Hawks made the Northeast-10 Championship.
  • The Hawks held their fifth annual "Corners for the Cure" initiative that helps raise monetary funds and awareness for breast cancer.
  • In an odd coincidence, Colleen Sears and Kincaid were also the two Hawks to score goals in last season's meeting with the Yellow Jackets, which ended with a 3-2 overtime win for AIC.

UP NEXT

  • The Hawks return to action Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. when they play host Southern New Hampshire University in non-conference action on Senior Day.
