HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Sophomore Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) scored a goal and added an assist and classmate Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) chipped in a pair of assists as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team took down Nichols College, 4-1, in ECAC East action Saturday night at Levy Rink.
With the win, Saint Anselm improves to 17-3-0 on the season and 10-2-0 in conference play, while Nichols drops to 4-17-0, 2-10-0 ECAC East.
Senior Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) put the Hawks on the board at the four minute mark of the first period with a shot from center ice that happened to find its way through traffic and past Nichols goalie Tori Gianformaggio. Junior Franny Nicholson (St. Paul, Minn.) was credited with an assist on the play.
Nichols answered at 9:56 of the same period as Erin Dice connected with Grace Murphy to get the puck past Saint Anselm freshman goaltender Hannah Synnott (Montclair, N.J.).
Saint Anselm picked up two more goals in the stanza, however, to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. Kazmer struck for the 2-1 tally when she received a feed from Geisinger and beat Gianfornaggio at 14:27. Senior Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.) was also assisting on the goal.
Senior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) put Saint Anselm on top, 3-1, with her goal at 17:52 after she was set up by passes from freshman Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) and Kazmer.
The score remained 3-1 until 2:12 into the third period when the Hawks were able to ice the game with a goal from Alexandra Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.). Geisinger and junior Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) were both credited with assists on the play.
Synnott stopped 21 Bison shots en route to her eighth win of the year, while Gianformaggio picked up 39 saves in the loss. Saint Anselm held a 44-23 advantage in shots on goal.
