SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Emma Kincaid (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Colleen Sears (Danvers, Mass.) scored goals, but the Saint Anselm College field hockey team ended its season with a 3-2 overtime loss to American International College on Saturday evening at Abdow Field.
The Hawks wrap up their season 8-9 overall, including 3-8 in Northeast-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 11-7, 7-4 NE-10, and earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Championship.
Kincaid gave Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead midway through the 12th minute when she put back the rebound off a Sears shot that was saved by AIC goalkeeper Ainslee Penfield.
It took until the 28th minute, but the Yellow Jackets gained the equalizer when Jenna Masionis fed Emma Heroth, who finished at the left post. AIC then took a 2-1 lead when Heroth set up Meghan Largo for a strike that came with time expired in the first half as the two teams played out a penalty corner.
Saint Anselm leveled the contest at 2-2 7:29 into the second half as Penfield stopped a shot from freshman Allia Connolly (Westford, Mass.), but Sears was there to clean up the rebound.
After a scoreless following 27:31, the two teams went to overtime where Largo won it just 2:16 in with her second of the game after receiving a pass from Masionis.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) made nine saves, while Penfield stopped seven shots.
AIC outshot Saint Anselm, 26-12, including 2-0 in the extra session, and also owned a 22-3 advantage in penalty corners.
This marked the final game for seniors Bridget Davis (Mansfield, Mass.), Elizabeth Baraldi (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Jessica Snow (Shrewsbury, Mass.).
