Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#9 Field Hockey Grounded by Assumption, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Allia Connolly (Westford, Mass.) tied the game in the 38th minute, but the ninth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team was edged by Assumption College, 2-1, Saturday at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks lose their second straight for the first time all season to dip to 5-3, including 1-2 in Northeast-10 play. The Greyhounds, who beat Saint Anselm for the third straight time after losing eight of 10, win for the seventh time in eight games to improve to 7-3, 2-1 NE-10.

Assumption struck first just 1:55 into the game when Sarah Frahm received a pass from Andrea Koslowski on the right side of the circle and beat sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) to make it 1-0.

The game stayed like that into the second half until Connolly took advantage of a breakaway as she came up the middle of the field and beat Assumption goalkeeper Lauren Neilan with a shot inside the right post just 2:42 in. It was her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The Greyhounds potted the eventual game winner in the 52nd minute as Koslowski sent a pass to the right side of the circle for Kiley Colucci, who found the back of the cage to make it 2-1.

Assumption had to make three saves the rest of the way, including a defensive save in the 60th minute, to preserve the victory.

Sears made three saves for the Hawks, while Neilan stopped seven shots for the Hounds.

Saint Anselm held an 11-9 advantage in shots, while Assumption owned a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. when they take on Bentley University. The next home game for the Hawks is Saturday, Oct. 25 at noon when they welcome in crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University for the first ever meeting between the two programs.
