MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Shauna Whittemore (Bennington, N.H.) made 10 saves, but the Saint Anselm College field hockey team was blanked by Assumption College, 2-0, Wednesday evening at Grappone Stadium.
The Hawks dip to 2-4 on the season, while the Greyhounds even their record at 4-4.
Assumption jumped on the board 11:09 into the contest when a quick pass in front of the net from Sarah Frahm to Paige Anderson resulted in a goal that staked the Greyhounds to a 1-0 lead.
The visitors doubled their lead just 1:35 later when Anderson collected a rebound off a Frahm shot and quickly passed it to Kiley Colucci, who put the ball in the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage.
Assumption goalkeeper Heather Philbrick stopped both shots she faced for the shutout, while Allison Juneau made a pair of defensive saves in the 18th minute to help the Greyhounds maintain their two-goal cushion.
The Greyhounds outshot Saint Anselm, 18-6, and also held an 18-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. when they take on Southern Connecticut State University. The next home game for the Hawks is Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. when they play host to Saint Michael's College at Grappone.
