Softball Ousted from Northeast-10 Championship After 4-0 Loss to Stonehill

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Kasey Moran (Medford, Mass.) and freshman Pattie Turner (Warwick, R.I.) each went 2-for-3, but the third-seeded Saint Anselm College softball team was knocked off by fourth-seeded Stonehill College, 4-0, Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the Northeast-10 Championship at South Athletic Field.

The Hawks, who earned a berth in the Northeast-10 Championship for the first time since 2008, wrap up their season at 22-21 overall, while the Skyhawks improve to 25-24-1 and will move on to play the University of New Haven, seeded second in the Southwest Division, Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University.

Stonehill moved out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against sophomore starter Paige Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) when Alison Sumski drew a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second and scored on Lindsay McKillop's single to left-center.

The Skyhawks added another in the third as Sumski once again started it with a leadoff single to center, moved over to third after singles by Megan Staudle and Nicole Eisenmann and scored on Megan Ruonavaara's RBI groundout.

McKillop's one-out solo shot to left-center in the fifth made it 3-0 before Sumski reached on an error, went to second on Staudle's single and scored on a base hit by Eisenmann that made it a four-run game in the sixth.

Cormier (12-8) allowed three runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out three in 4.1 innings. Sophomore Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine) gave up one run – none earned – on a pair of hits, while walking one and striking out two over the final 2.2 innings.

Sophomore Hayley Lombard (Boynton Beach, Fla.) had the other Saint Anselm hit as she was 1-for-3.

Ruonavaara (15-11) tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering five hits, walking one and striking out a pair.

This marked the final game for seniors Lauren Galavotti (Marion, Mass.) and Shannon Dalton (Concord, Mass.).
