MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seniors Michael Hanna (Southborough, Mass.), Joseph Zucchi (Methuen, Mass.) and Matthew Greeke (So. Hamilton, Mass.), sophomore Kyle White (Cambridge, Mass.) and freshman John Joyce (Juneau, Alaska) each won a pair of matches to lead the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team to Friday afternoon's 8-1 victory against Salem State University at the Carr Center Tennis Courts.
The Hawks improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Vikings fall to 0-1 after their season opener.
Hanna won his No. 3 singles match against Krystian Biedul, 6-2, 6-0, and teamed with Zucchi to claim an 8-5 decision against Joe Kim and Kenny Hodgkins in No. 2 doubles play. Zucchi posted a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Seidel in No. 1 singles play.
Greeke was a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 winner in his No. 5 singles tilt with Conner Erickson. The two also met when Joyce helped Greeke take down Erickson and David Dluznieski, 8-4, in No. 3 doubles. Joyce blanked Kevin Lam in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
White, meanwhile, captured a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hodgkins in No. 4 singles play. White and senior William Condon (Mansfield, Mass.) were 8-2 winners against Tyler Seidel and Biedul.
