HARTFORD, Conn. – Freshmen Alexandra Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) and Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team took down NESCAC opponent Trinity College, 6-3, Friday evening in non-conference action.
Saint Anselm continues its surge to 9-1 overall with its sixth straight win, while the Bantams drop to 2-3-2.
Freshman Alison Butler (Danvers, Mass.) began the scoring for Saint Anselm just 1:51 into the game when she picked up a pass from senior Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.) and beat Trinity goaltender Kristen Maxwell. Sophomore Jessica Galiczewski (Kings Park, N.Y.) began the play with the pass up ice to Bouchie.
The Hawks went up 2-0 when Starzyk scored her first of the game as she connected with freshman Meaghan Spurling (Byfield, Mass.). Spurling registered her first career point on the play.
Trinity cut the Hawks' lead in half, however, as Lily Garcia beat Saint Anselm netminder Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.). Cheeky Herr and Abby Ostrom were assisting on the Bantam's first goal of the game.
Saint Anselm junior Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) scored the only goal in the second period as she struck on the Hawk power play with just 10 seconds left in the frame. Seniors Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) and Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) each assisted on the 3-1 tally.
Trinity was quick to score at the start of the third, just 13 seconds in, as Elizabeth Caporale found the net after receiving a pass from Whitney Colbert to bring the Bantams within one at 3-2. Quinn scored her first of the night, however, at 1:56 when sophomore Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) sent her a pass that she snuck past Maxwell. Winters also dished out a helper on the play.
The Bantams responded 24 seconds later when Emily Kleidon picked up a pass from Emily Riccio and buried it past Brown.
After a four-minute break in scoring, Quinn recorded her second goal as Spurling and Winters each tallied their second and third assists of the night, respectively. Starzyk capped the scoring with her second goal of the evening, netted with just 1:23 left in the game, after she picked up a pass from sophomore Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ill.).
Brown made 16 saves, while Maxwell stopped 29 of 35 shots on goal. Saint Anselm was 1-for-5 on the power play, while Trinity was 0-for-1 with the extra skater.
