PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.), senior Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) each tallied a goal alongside an assist, but that was not enough as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team played to a 4-4 draw with Plymouth State in an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East Conference game at Hanaway Rink.
The Panthers tallied three goals in the middle frame; including a power play marker by Meghan Cassidy to take a 4-3 lead into the final period. Senior Kathryn Picarello (West Roxbury, Mass.) potted her only goal of the game at 3:30 of the third to even the score, and neither team was able to score in the extra frame.
Saint Anselm is now 11-3-3 overall and in third place in the ECAC East with a 7-1-3 mark, while PSU is now 3-11-2 overall and 2-6-2 in conference play.
With her two points tonight, Giarrusso makes another mark in the Saint Anselm women's ice hockey record book as the all-time points leader with 125 career points to date. She overtakes the spot previously held by Kathleen Twomey, who was a member of the team from 2005 to 2009 and stood at 124 career points.
The Panthers were first to score when Kelsey Cosby stole the puck at the blue line for PSU and raced in on a breakaway, scoring on a wrist shot high to the stick side at the 15:02 mark.
Herron gained the equalizer on a rebound less than a minute later, slipping one past PSU goalie Ali Ponte after she made the initial stop on freshman Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.).
Saint Anselm took its only lead of the day four minutes into the second period when Giarrusso scored on a breakaway.
Marisa Zamrock answered for PSU two minutes later with a wrap-around shot that slipped through the goalie's pads to make it a 2-2 game. The Panthers regained the lead at the 10-minute mark on Meghan Cassidy's power-play goal as she fired a slap shot over the goalie's shoulder.
The Hawks tied it up again at the 13:09 mark Winters scored on a shot off the goalie's pads, but Zamrock's second goal of the contest with 2:07 left in the second period gave PSU the lead back at a score of 4-3. Picarello would then net her lone goal, to tie things back up at four apiece.
Junior Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) and sophomore Janice Michaud (Westwood, Mass.) combined for 12 saves for the Hawks, while Ponte made 20 stops for PSU.
The Hawks return to action Friday, Jan. 25 when they play host Manhattanville College in a 4 p.m. puck drop at Thomas F. Sullivan arena for "Pink in the Rink" in support of breast cancer awareness.
