EASTON, Mass. - The Saint Anselm College softball team dropped each game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Skyhawks of Stonehill College Wednesday afternoon at Fr. William Gartland, C.S.C. Field.  With the losses, the Hawks fall to 17-25 overall on the season and possess an 11-15 overall record through 26 Northeast-10 Conference games.  The Skyhawks, winners of five straight games for the first time all season, improve to 22-12 overall alongside a 15-11 mark within the conference.

Saint Anselm jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first three innings but allowed five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Hawks dropped game one by an 8-7 spread.  Following a leadoff single by right fielder Kristen Peffer (Cumberland, R.I.), catcher Lauren Galavotti (Marion, Mass.) socked a two-run shot to left field to plate Peffer with the first two runs of the game.  Designated player Cara Crowley (Lynn, Mass.) drove in Hannah Byrne (Lynn, Mass.) with a single to further extend the Hawks lead.  On a successful double steal by left fielder Mary Fay (Stoughton, Mass.) from second and Crowley from home, the Hawks tallied their fourth run of the inning.

The Skyhawks struck quickly in the home half of the frame, touching Hawks starter Shannon Dalton (Concord, Mass.) for two runs.  Following a bunt single by junior Courtney Marchand, a walk by Lindsay McKillop placed runners on first and second.  With two outs, Nicole Eisenmann smacked a double to left center field to score Marchand.  Brianna Gunter lined a Dalton offering to third base where it was not corralled by Byrne for the second run of the inning, scoring McKillop on the play.

In the Saint Anselm half of the second inning, Galavotti homered to left center field for her second long ball of the game, driving in second baseman Kat Scafidi (Hudson, N.H.) who led off the frame with a single.  Crowley led off the top of the third inning with a home run to left center field, granting the Hawks a 7-2 lead which they would not hold as catcher Kelsey Wilcox homered to left field off of Dalton to bring the score to 7-3.

Stonehill plated five runs in the home half of the sixth inning courtesy of six hits and two errors.  Casey Remick led off the inning with a home run to right field to bring the score to 7-4.  With two runners on base, left-hander Paige Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) came on to face Wilcox who plated Marchand with the fifth Skyhawks run of the inning.  Eisenmann collected the fifth single in a row for Stonehill, plating McKillop who reached on a single earlier in the inning.  A fielders choice was sandwiched between two Hawks errors, tying the game and plating the go-ahead run in the sequence.  Hawks pitcher Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine) induced the final out of the inning, forcing Christina Swider to ground out.

Dalton pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits alongside six earned runs in a no-decision.  Cormier (3-5) was saddled with the loss, allowing two hits in the crucial sixth inning and allowing an unearned run following a Hawks error.  Trask pitched 1/3 of an inning in the defeat.  For the Skyhawks, McKillop allowed six earned runs in the game in only 1 1/3 of work.  Kellie Reardon entered in relief, allowing only one earned run the remainder of the contest.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Hawks could only muster three hits en route to a 9-0 blanking by Stonehill.  The Skyhawks took advantage of big innings, plating four runs in the bottom of the second and five runs in the bottom of the third inning.  In the second, Remick singled to center field to drive in the pinch runner Julianne Meehan with the first run.  Swider cracked a three-run home run to straight-away center field to plate Jocelynne Morrell and and Remick to extend the lead.

In the third inning, McKillop plated Marchand with a double to center field to extend the lead to 5-0.  Eisenmann singled through the right side of the infield to plate McKillop to add an additional run to the scoresheet for Stonehill.  Swider struck again with her fourth and fifth runs batted in later in the frame, singling up the middle to increase the damage.  Remick later stole home plate for the final run of the game for the Skyhawks.

Only second baseman Kasey Moran (Medford, Mass.), shortstop Nicole Boucher (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Peffer collected hits in the second game against pitcher Samantha Krantz, who struck out 10 Saint Anselm batters.  Trask drew the loss, allowing a career-high nine earned runs in four innings of work while striking out six batters.

NOTABLES: The Hawks were swept by the Skyhawks for the first time on the road since Saturday, Apr. 9, 2005…Catcher Lauren Galavotti's two home runs in the first game marks a single game career-high mark - she is now tied for seventh place all-time in program history for round trippers…Galavotti's four runs batted in during the first game of today's doubleheader is tied with the second-largest RBI total dating back to the start of the 2001 season by any Hawks player…Right fielder Kristen Peffer is riding a modest four-game hit streak and has collected at least one hit in five of her last six games and seven of her last nine games.
