#13 Women's Lacrosse Upended by Top-Ranked Le Moyne, 24-9

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Kaitlyn Stazinski (Pembroke, Mass.) registered three goals, but the 13th-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team suffered a 24-9 defeat against top-ranked Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon at the Niland Athletic Complex.

The Hawks drop to 6-6 on the season, including 4-4 in Northeast-10 play, while the Dolphins remain perfect at 11-0, 8-0 NE-10.

After Brenna Bauer staked Le Moyne to a 1-0 lead just 11 seconds into the contest, senior Meghan Smith (Pittsford, N.Y.) found the back of the net 1:14 later to knot it at one. The Dolphins followed with four straight goals, including two from Brittany Brigandi, to grab a 5-1 lead with 23:31 remaining in the opening half.

Freshman Marissa Daly (Marshfield, Mass.) stopped the run 29 seconds later, but Brigandi scored to spark a three-goal run that made it 8-2 with 18:37 left. Junior Carrie Brophy (Mansfield, Mass.) then scored off a feed from Smith, before goals from Stazinski and classmate Kelly Pickett (Chelmsford, Mass.) trimmed the Le Moyne lead to 8-5 with 9:29 to go.

Brigandi set up Bauer 53 seconds later to snap the streak and start a four-goal run of their own for the Dolphins that made it 12-5 with 5:13 on the clock. Stazinski scored 28 seconds later and then followed a Stephanie Dussing goal at the 4:01 mark by converting a free-position shot to close the scoring with 2:02 left and send the Hawks to the break trailing, 13-7.

Le Moyne began the second half by scoring five straight goals, including two from Kathleen Conese, to open its lead up to 18-7 with 18:40 remaining.

Junior Britini Hickman (Farmington, N.H.) found the back of the net at the 17:13 mark and then netted a free-position goal with 15:21 to go to slice it to 18-9, but Le Moyne closed the game by scoring six straight goals.

Sophomore Katherine Amato (Bedford, N.H.) made one save playing the first 17:54 of the contest before freshman Allee Ramzi (Cumberland, R.I.) stopped eight shots over the final 41:25 of play. Kelly Fucillo made eight saves in 55:20 of action, while Molly Marbut did not face a shot over the final 3:59.

Le Moyne outshot Saint Anselm, 41-21, including 19-8 in the second half, and also held a 22-13 advantage in draw controls. The Hawks were 2-for-5 on their free-position attempts, while the Dolphins were a perfect 1-for-1.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Franklin Pierce University under the lights at Grappone Stadium. The Hawks will be hosting "Teal the Field" to support the "Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer" organization and raise ovarian cancer awareness. All fans attending the game are encouraged to wear teal. In addition to "Teal the Field," the Hawks will be holding "Bedford Youth Lacrosse Night" and will be having a shooting contest for Bedford Youth Lacrosse members at halftime.
