MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Alex Schultheis (Cranston, R.I.) earned two points, but the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team was swept in a pair of matches against Pace University and Adelphi University this weekend at the Saint Anselm Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Hawks dropped a 7-2 decision to Pace on Saturday and fell to Adelphi by the same score Sunday.
The Hawks drop to 1-5 on the season, including 0-5 in Northeast-10 play. The Setters improve to 3-7, 2-6 NE-10, while the Panthers up their record to 5-6, 5-0 NE-10.
In the Pace match, Schultheis won his No. 2 singles match against Andrew Feola, 6-2, 6-3, while senior Liam Concannon (Boston, Mass.) captured his No. 6 singles tilt against Vinnie Birkenmeyer, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Against Adelphi, the No. 1 doubles duo of freshman Nick Schwab (Seaford, N.Y.) and Shultheis defeated Andreas Hammar and Adrish Tewarie, 8-6. Juniors Joseph Zucchi (Methuen, Mass.) and William Condon (Mansfield, Mass.) teamed up to earn a No. 2 doubles victory against Ryan Villarruel and Bryen Kallenberg, 8-3.
The Hawks return to action Thursday, March 29 at 3:30 p.m. when they take on crosstown-rival Southern New Hampshire University. The next home match for the Hawks is Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m. when they play host to American International College.
