BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Meghan Smith (Pittsford, N.Y.) scored three goals, but the Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team fell to third-ranked C.W. Post, 15-6, Friday afternoon in the team's season opener at Hickox Field.
The Hawks open the season 0-1, while the Pioneers begin 1-0.
After Nan Mayott kicked off the scoring just 40 seconds in, Smith potted her first on a free position chance to knot the game 2:47 in. The Pioneers would answer with five straight goals, however, including a second by Mayott, to grab a 6-1 lead with 13:56 remaining in the opening half.
Senior Shawna Walsh (Woburn, Mass.) scored the Hawks' second goal on a free position shot to make it 6-2 with 12:00 to go. C.W. Post answered with another scoring run, however, this time with six goals, including the second and third of the game for Ashley Olen, to make it 12-2 at the half.
Smith opened the second-half scoring 5:04 in with another free position goal that made it 12-3. The Pioneers scored four straight, with Jackie Sileo scoring the first three, to bring the score to 16-3 with 16:33 to play.
Freshman Kaitlyn Stazinski (Pembroke, Mass.) notched her first collegiate goal on a free position chance with 9:08 remaining. Smith would add another goal with 6:33 left to make it 16-5. Freshman Marissa Daly (Marshfield, Mass.) earned her first collegiate point with an assist on the play.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Amato (Bedford, N.H.) made three saves in the first half, while freshman Allee Ramzi (Cumberland, R.I.) stopped six of 10 shots as she played the entire second stanza. Dominique Mosca made 11 saves for the Pioneers.
C.W. Post outshot Saint Anselm, 34-21, including 20-10 in the opening half.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m. when they take on Dowling College.
