Women's Ice Hockey Plays to 2-2 Deadlock with Manhattanville

MANCHESTER, N.H.Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season and added an assist as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team battled to a 2-2 tie with Manhattanville College on Sunday afternoon at Thomas F. Sullivan Arena.

With the tie, the Hawks now stand at 2-0-1 overall on the young season and 1-0-1 in ECAC East play, while the Valiants move to 1-2-1 for the 2012-13 campaign and 1-0-1 in league play.

Saint Anselm was first to score at 11:16 of the first period on a 5-on-3 when Kathryn Picarello (West Roxbury, Mass.) tipped the puck into the net at the left post after Foss sent a shot rocketing from the top of the left circle. Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.) also picked up a helper on the play.

The Valiants answered back with 41 seconds remaining in the first stanza when Michelle Meggiolaro connected with a pass from Sydney Asselstine and sent the puck into the back of the net.

Manhattanville would notch another goal at 8:05 of the second period when Kelly Keane picked up a feed from Alla Traun and netted her first of the season as she beat Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) five-hole. Erin Sidjak also picked up an assist on the play.

Early in the third period at 4:13, Foss picked up a goal of her own as she intercepted the puck in the high slot, split two defenders and sent a wrister into the top-right corner of the net.

Through the overtime frame, each team took two shots on goal, but neither was able to net the game winner.

Brown made 15 saves over 65 minutes of action, while Valiant netminder Mary Evans made 27 saves, including 11 in the third period.

Saint Anselm held a 29-17 advantage in shots.
