GORHAM, Maine – Forward Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) scored her fifth goal of the season at 6:02 of the first period, lifting the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team to a 1-0 victory Friday evening. With the victory, the Hawks recorded their 11th victory of the season, improving to 11-4-0 overall and to 6-4-0 within the ECAC Women's East. The loss drops the Huskies to 4-9-3 overall and to 4-4-1 within conference play.
Giarrusso scored the game's only goal at 6:02 of the first period. Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) collected the lone assist on Giarrusso's tally. Collectively on the afternoon, the Hawks out-shot the opposition by a 29-to-6 margin.
In goal for the Hawks, Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) posted her first collegiate victory (1-0-0) in her first collegiate game, turning aside all six shots on goal from the Huskies. Southern Maine goaltender Liz Bergstrom (4-5-3) halted 28-of-29 shots on goal for the Huskies, drawing her fifth loss of the season.
Saint Anselm was 0-for-4 on the power play. Southern Maine was 0-for-6 with the extra skater.
