Giarrusso The Difference In 1-0 Hawks Victory

GORHAM, Maine – Forward Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) scored her fifth goal of the season at 6:02 of the first period, lifting the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team to a 1-0 victory Friday evening.  With the victory, the Hawks recorded their 11th victory of the season, improving to 11-4-0 overall and to 6-4-0 within the ECAC Women's East.  The loss drops the Huskies to 4-9-3 overall and to 4-4-1 within conference play.

Giarrusso scored the game's only goal at 6:02 of the first period.  Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) collected the lone assist on Giarrusso's tally.  Collectively on the afternoon, the Hawks out-shot the opposition by a 29-to-6 margin. 

In goal for the Hawks, Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) posted her first collegiate victory (1-0-0) in her first collegiate game, turning aside all six shots on goal from the Huskies.  Southern Maine goaltender Liz Bergstrom (4-5-3) halted 28-of-29 shots on goal for the Huskies, drawing her fifth loss of the season.

Saint Anselm was 0-for-4 on the power play.  Southern Maine was 0-for-6 with the extra skater.

NOTABLES:  Against the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine all-time, the Hawks hold a commanding 11-1-1 record dating back to the program's inception prior to the 2004-05 season…The Hawks have posted five prior 1-0 victories, most recently notching a one-goal win against New England on Nov. 20, 2009…In program history, the Hawks hold a 5-3 record overall in 1-0 contests… The Hawks are currently riding a five-game winning streak after tonight's victory and have not lost in regulation time dating back to Nov. 19 against nationally-ranked Norwich University by a 6-0 margin…Saint Anselm has not lost in regulation dating back to the defeat against Norwich…Forward Rosemarie Giarrusso is in the midst of an eight game point streak, recording 11 points (3-8=11) during that time frame...Goaltender Lindsey Brown, a transfer from The Ohio State University, posted her first collegiate victory in tonight's game and is the third different goaltender to appear in a game this season for the Hawks.
