SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Junior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) and freshman Molly O'Brien (Emerald Isle, N.C.) of the Saint Anselm College field hockey team garnered Northeast-10 weekly honors for the week ending Sept. 18, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Katsikis was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week after she recorded seven points and had a hand in four of the Hawks' five goals as they went 2-0 last week and won consecutive games for the first time in three years. Katsikis, the first Player of the Week for Saint Anselm since Sept. 8, 2008 when sophomore forward Annie Heaney captured the award, doubled her season total with five points in a 3-0 win against Assumption on Wednesday, scoring the first two goals of the game before setting up the third. Katsikis then helped the Hawks rally for a 2-1 win against Southern Connecticut on Saturday, tying the game 6:06 into the second half.
O'Brien was awarded Defensive Player of the Week honors as she helped anchor a defense that allowed a single goal during the week and has not allowed a tally in the second half of play for three consecutive contests. O'Brien has started every game this season and has emerged as a force in the back, bringing consistency to a defense that has kept the Hawks in every game.
In addition to the pair of weekly award winners, junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) was named to the Week 3 Honor Roll as she stopped four of five shots she faced during the week and recorded her first career shutout.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 24 at noon when they play host to Merrimack College at Grappone Stadium.
