MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College field hockey team fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University by a score of 3-2 in the first-ever regular season contest held on the new turf field at Grappone Stadium Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-1 on the young season while the Ravens improve to 1-0 on the year.
Danielle Dolan scored the first goal of the contest for Franklin Pierce with 11:28 remaining in the first half. Just under two minutes later, Morgan Seney (Bow, N.H.) evened the score at one apiece, collecting a feed from Stephanie Chaisson (Methuen, Mass.) that was fired past Ravens goaltender Brittany Nyzio. A Kim Jaksina goal, assisted by Dolan, rounded out first half scoring for the Ravens as the Hawks trailed 2-1.
Dolan struck first again entering the second stanza, scoring at 5:29 off of a Megan Bird cross. Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) added a goal later in the period, but the Hawks could not rally from the one goal deficit.
Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) stopped six-of-nine shots on goal and drew the loss. Nyzio allowed only two goals on 11 shots on goal for her first victory of the season.
The Hawks return to action on Sep. 6 as they travel to Bentley University for a 7:00 p.m. match. Saint Anselm will face-off against Stonehill on Sep. 8 at 4:00 p.m. on the South Athletic Fields.
