Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls to Bentley, 21-13

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Meghan Smith (Pittsford, N.Y.) and sophomore Carrie Brophy (Mansfield, Mass.) each scored four goals, but the Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-13 decision to Bentley University on Tuesday evening.

The Hawks fall to 4-9, including 4-7 in Northeast-10 play, while the Falcons improve to 8-8, 6-5 NE-10.

Junior Shawna Walsh (Woburn, Mass.) and Brophy scored in the first 2:10 of the contest to give Saint Anselm an early 2-1 lead. Bentley then ran off four straight goals before Brophy's second made it 5-3 at the 19:30 mark of the opening half.

After the Falcons widened their advantage to three, a pair of Smith tallies sandwiched Brophy's third of the night to tie the game at six with 11:28 to play in the half. Bentley again scored four straight to take a 10-6 lead at the break and then opened the second stanza with five consecutive goals to make it 15-6.

The Hawks answered with four straight scores from Walsh, Brophy, Smith and sophomore Lauren Alfis (Hanover, N.H.) to cut their deficit to five, but Bentley netted six straight to open its lead up to 21-10. Smith's tally with 17:08 remaining was her 13th free position tally of the season, setting a new program record. Lauren Glancy scored 12 free position goals in 2007.

Sophomore Bryanna Hayes (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Leigh Krzyston (Bedford, N.H.) scored goals before Smith added her fourth with 19 seconds left, but it was not enough.

Senior goalkeeper Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) made seven saves. Bentley's Ally Dorman stopped six shots, while Kate Poznick made seven saves.

Bentley held a 37-31 advantage in shots, while Saint Anselm owned a 20-16 edge in draw controls. The Falcons were 7-for-13 on their free-position chances, while the Hawks were 5-for-13.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m. when they play host to the University of New Haven at Grappone Stadium on Senior Day.
