Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Herron Scores Twice In 2-0 Victory Over Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) posted a two-goal evening for the third time this season as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team recorded a 2-0 victory over the Ephs of Williams College Friday evening.  With the victory, the Hawks improve to 6-3-0 overall on the season in this evening's non-conference tilt.  The Ephs of Williams College fall to 2-2-0 on the season.

Following a scoreless two periods, Herron scored her first goal of the game at 5:24 of the first period, forcing home a rebound given up by Ephs goaltender Rachel Nguyen for her seventh goal of the season.  Forward Casey Breese (Suffield, Conn.) and defenseman Molly Corl (Georgetown, Mass.) posted assists on Herron's first goal of the game.

Her second goal of the contest came just over three minutes after, potting an insurance goal at 8:52 of the third period to lift the Hawks to a two-goal advantage.  Again pouncing on a loose puck in the crease, Herron forced home a puck that struck an Ephs defender at the top of the crease.  Herron's serpentine route with the puck eluded Nguyen for the Hawks second goal of the game, scored on the power play, with 11:08 to play in the contest.

Saint Anselm goaltender Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) collected her sixth victory of the season, turning aside all nine shots on goal that she faced for her second shutout of the season.  Nguyen (2-2-0) turned aside 14-of-16 shots on goal, drawing her second loss of the season.

Saint Anselm was 1-for-5 on the power play.  Williams was 0-for-4 with the extra skater.
