Field Hockey Falls to Bellarmine, 7-3, in Regular-Season Finale

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Junior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist, and freshman Bridget Davis (Mansfield, Mass.) scored her first career goal, but the Saint Anselm College field hockey team dropped its regular-season finale to Bellarmine University, 7-3, Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Timken Center.

The Hawks wrap up their season at 6-12, while the Knights improve to 10-4.

Trailing 2-0 in the 17th minute, the Hawks jumped on the board when Katsikis found the back of the net with an unassisted goal.

Katsikis, who already owns the program's all-time goals, assists and points records, closes out the best season in Saint Anselm history, setting single-season records for goals (16), assists (10) and points (42). Katsikis is tied for second in the conference in assists, ranks third in points and is fourth in goals.

Rachael Walz pushed the Knights' advantage back to two when she scored in the 20th minute to make it 3-1.

Then in the 26th minute, Katsikis set up Davis, who found the back of the cage for the first time in her career. Davis finishes her rookie campaign as Saint Anselm's third-leading scorer with nine points on a goal and seven assists. The seven assists are the third most in a single-season in program history, as well as the most ever by a freshman.

That was as close as the Hawks would get, however, as Bellarmine opened the second half with four unanswered tallies, including two more by Walz, to make it 7-2.

Senior Stephanie Chaisson (Methuen, Mass.) closed the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) stopped three shots, while Katie Lange made one save during the first 49:17 before being relieved by Megan Martiny, who also made a save in the final 20:43.

Shots were even at 13 apiece, with each team holding a 7-6 edge in one half.

This marked the final contest for seniors Chaisson, Morgan Seney (Bow, N.H.) and Sara Sterling (Mansfield, Mass.).
