MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm women's lacrosse team hosted the Assumption College Greyhounds this afternoon in the Hawks' first home game of the season.  The Greyhounds led the Hawks for just three out of the game's 60 minutes, as the Hawks cruised to a 15-10 victory and picked up their first NE-10 win of the season.  The Hawks improve to 3-2 (1-1 NE-10), while the Greyhounds drop to 1-3 (0-2 NE-10).

Junior midfielder Erin Theriault opened the scoring for the Greyhounds at 28:43 in the first half.  Assumption held onto its lead for less than a minute, when Leigh Krzyston (Bedford, N.H.) put the Hawks on the board at 27:26 to tie the game at one.  The Hawks then scored three more unanswered goals, two by Meghan Smith (Pittsford, N.Y.) and one by Shawna Walsh (Woburn, Mass.) to take an early 4-1 lead less than seven minutes into the game.

The Greyhounds mounted a strong comeback, scoring four straight goals and taking a 5-4 lead at 12:20.  Freshman Lauren Alfis (Hanover, Mass.) tied the game for the third time at 10:45, and at 8:21 in the first, Carrie Brophy (Mansfield, Mass.) regained the Hawks lead, which they held onto throughout the rest of the game.  At 11:08 in the second half, Meghan Smith knocked in her third goal, giving the Hawks their biggest lead of the game, 13-6, and while the Greyhounds battled back in the final 10 minutes of play, they eventually fell by a final score of 15-10.

Meghan Smith led both teams in goals, notching four, and she added two assists for a six-point game.  Tia Karon (Medford, Mass.) added three goals of her own, and Leigh Krzyston and Carrie Brophy each scored three points.  Greyhound Emily Morrell scored two goals and five assists for a game-leading seven points, and Erin Theriault netted a team-best three goals.  Goalkeeper Julie Verbic made 11 saves for the Greyhounds, and Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) turned aside seven shots in her third victory of the season.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, March 31st, when they host the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup beginning at 4:00 pm.
