North Andover, Mass. (November 6) -- On Saturday night in Northeast-10 Conference play, the Saint Anselm field hockey team dropped a 4-1 final to Merrimack at Warrior Field. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-13 overall and 2-7 in league play. Merrimack is now 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the league.
Merrimack took an early lead on an unassisted goal by April Daugherty at the 9:17 mark before Saint Anselm answered just 1:33 later. The Hawks converted a penalty corner at 10:50 as junior Sara Sterling (Mansfield, Mass.) scored her third goal of the year to tie things up. The Warriors regained the lead later in the first half and then added two goals in a five-minute span in the second half to clinch the win.
Sophomore Lindsay MacDonald (Dedham, Mass.) made eight saves in the loss, while Kerri Bergquist turned aside three shots for Merrimack in the victory.
Saint Anselm concludes the season at nationally-ranked UMass Lowell on November 10th at 7 p.m.
