Manchester, N.H. (April 5)-The Saint Anselm
College softball team dropped two games to the University of New
Haven Chargers 6-0 and 5-3 in NE-10 action on Sunday afternoon at
the South Athletic Fields. The losses drop the Hawks to 11-12-1
overall and 3-4-1 in NE-10 play, while the wins lift the Chargers
to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in league contests.
Game one was dominated by Charger pitcher Breanne
Gleason (Bristol,
Conn.) who went the distance and
scattered four Hawk hits in the shutout victory. Saint Anselm
starter Megan Lemire
(Worcester,
Mass.) went seven innings
allowing 13 hits and five earned runs in the losing effort.
Hawk second baseman Liz Lebrun
(Rowley,
Mass.) had two hits for the Hawks
but New Haven's second baseman Courtney Garland
(East Meadow,
N.Y.) went had four hits in as
many at bats with a RBI and two runs in the win.
In game two, the Hawks jumped out to an early lead scoring a run
in each of the first three innings. In the top of the first,
Raylyn Glavin
(Saugus,
Mass.) cracked a RBI triple to
give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead. Kat Scafidi's
(Hudson,
N.H.) sac-fly would extend the
Hawks lead to 2-0 after two innings, while Morgan Murphy's
(Orange,
Mass.) towering home run would
give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
However New Haven would score three in the top of the fifth and
two more in the top of the seventh for the 5-3 Saint Anselm loss.
Lisa Caruso
(Granby,
Conn.) took the loss in game two
going six innings allowing three earned runs and striking out three
Chargers, while Gleason came on in relief for New Haven and pitched
four scoreless innings to pick up her second win of the day.
The Hawks return to the field, Wednesday, April 8th, as they
will travel to Southern Conn. for a 3 p.m. start.
