Manchester, N.H.
(April 26)-The Saint Anselm College women's
lacrosse team fell to the No. 2 Pioneers of C.W. Post 19-5 Sunday
afternoon at Grappone Stadium on senior day. Michaela
Rocha's (Rye, N.H.) second-half goal was the 57th of the
season, setting a new Saint Anselm record.
Saint Anselm, who lost the tiebreaker to Franklin Pierce for the
NE-10 post-season tournament, ends their season at 5-10 overall,
while the win improves the Pioneers to 15-1 in 2009.
After C.W. Post jumped out to a 6-0 lead, Rocha put the Hawks on
the board at the 19:53 mark to make it 6-1 when she took a pass
from freshman midfielder Meghan Smith (Pittsford,
N.Y.). Smith would score on a free-position shot five
minutes later to make it 8-2, but Jaclyn Napoli's (West
Islip, N.Y.) third goal of the first half with 45 seconds
remaining made it 14-2 at the half.
At halftime, seniors Kayleigh Farrell (Nashua,
N.H.), Michaela Power (Arlington, Mass.)
and Rocha were honored.
In the second half, Rocha's goal with just over 12 minutes to
play, off a free-position shot rebound, gave her the single season
record. With six minutes remaining, Farrell notched her second
career goal on a free-position shot for the Hawks to make it 18-4
visitors. Smith would add another goal on a free-position shot and
Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) scored for the
Pioneers with 21 seconds remaining, on a behind the back shot for
the 19-5 Hawk loss.
Saint Anselm goalie Katherine O'Hara (Norwell,
Mass.) made eight saves and allowed 17 goals in the loss,
while C.W. Post netminder Sam Powers (Holbrook,
N.Y.) made eight saves and allowed two goals in her 15th
win of the season.
Rocha leaves the Hawks with 203 career points, 145 goals and 61
assists, all of which are second all-time in school history. In
2009, her 57 goals, 34 assists and 91 points are all single-season
Saint Anselm records.
